Pilgrimage of the Kindred Spirits

Recently we spent several days in PEI on vacation. It was so much fun!

First, we took the ferry from Nova Scotia to the island and then spend that evening and most of the next day in Charlottetown. We went to the musical "Anne" and it was so much fun!! Then we drove to the north shore and camped at Cavendish campground right on the shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence for three nights. It was so beautiful and a neat experience to see the ocean from our site. We had perfect weather every day except the last full day that we were there....then there was a scary rain/wind storm. I was kind of a chicken, but our tent proved to be a good one so I was thankful. The highlight was going to Green Gables! I have wanted to go there since I was little and read the Anne series for the first time. We are kindred spirits for sure and it was such a treat to go see the beloved Green Gables and to see her world. It was also wonderful to learn more about L.M. Montgomery and visit the site of the home where she grew up and where she wrote 4 books, including Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea. And Anne/L.M.M. weren't joking, there really is so much scope for the imagination in PEI!

Boarding the ferry.
Matthew on the ferry.
First lighthouse on PEI! And check out that red earth!
Fish and chips!
Province house in Charlottetown. We watched a light show on this building on the first night it gave some history about the province and about Confederation.
Our campsite.

Eating breakfast at our campsite.
Eating breakfast another morning.
My first Anne display! (There were PLENTY more just like this one!)
So many gorgeous Victorian homes with intricate detail.
Matthew, shootin' the breeze with John A. MacDonald. ;)
A visit to the Anne of Green Gables chocolate store. Oh how I wish I had hair like hers!
Down at the Charlottetown harbour.

Beloved Green Gables!

A view from Green Gables. So pretty, its no wonder Anne loved it so!
In the front room
 Matthew Cuthbert's room
Kitchen....can you spot the "Raspberry Cordial"?!

 There it is!
 Anne's room!!
The smashed slate....just the beginning of her and Gilbert!
 Spare room.
Marilla's room. Prim and proper, just like her!
We took a walk in the Haunted Woods. They really were kind of spooky!
Foot picture on Lover's Lane. It was lovely!

Sand dune on the beach by our campsite.
 Red rocks on the shore.

L.M. Montgomery's grave in Cavendish. (It says MacDonald, because she married Rev. Ewan MacDonald but continued to publish books as L.M.M.)
Visiting the site where L.M. grew up. This is the well.
This is the foundation of the house she grew up in. Unfortunately, after her grandmother died, L.M. moved to Ontario to marry Ewen MacDonald and the house was not cared for, so it just got old.
This was the view that L.M. looked over from her window in that house. The desk where she wrote Anne of Green gables was at her bedroom window, so this is what she may have looked at while writing. Cool eh?
We drove to Dalvay by the Sea....why? Because that is where William and Kate visited when they were here this summer!
And as luck would have it, we found them!! ;)
Fancy hats in the Avonlea gift store!
We came home via Confederation Bridge.
Here are a few treasures we picked up along our travels. The bottles are Lemon Olive Oil and Cinnamon Pear and Wild Blueberry Balsamic Vinegar. They were at the Olive Store in Charlottetown. So cool and delicious. We'll have some yummy salads at home now! The mugs are the two most recent additions to our "random pottery mug" collection. And the book is the short autobiography that L.M. wrote in 1917, I did not know about it but was lucky enough to find it at her historical site. Such a great read!

So much fun! Can't wait to go back!
